The meeting was held in Richardton, North Dakota and was hosted by Roughrider Electric Cooperative.  The focus of the meeting was wind development in North Dakota.  Various topics were discussed including:

  • Clayton Hoffman, co-manager of Innovative Energy Alliance, discussed the formation of the new consolidated electric cooperative in North Dakota, Roughrider Electric Cooperative
  • Public Service Commission President Susan Wefald reported on wind energy development in North Dakota
  • Chris Baumgartner and Jeremy Woeste of Basin Electric Power Cooperative discussed Basin Electric’s wind energy development and gave insights to determine credibility of wind developers

Following the meeting the group toured Red Trail Energy.  Red Trail Energy began operation in January of 2007 and is currently producing 50 million gallons of ethanol annually.  This is a state of the art facility with equipment and technologies that produce ethanol at maximum efficiency.

Monthly Conference Calls
The center hosts monthly conference calls with cooperative employees who respond to economic development needs in their service areas.  These calls give employees an opportunity to learn from each other and connect with the Statewide staff for assistance The calls are held the third Wednesday of each month.

Rural Developers’ Round Table Talks – The center hosts quarterly “Round Table Talks” in different areas of the state.  The events are very informal, but are a great way to connect with economic developers from different regions of the state.  There is usually a discussion of projects being worked on by developers, followed by a panel discussion covering various issues facing economic developers across the state.
