N.D. Utility Rebate Program
Eligibility
- Members of North Dakota electric cooperatives are eligible for this rebate program for improvements made to facilities served by the electric cooperative. Similar programs are being offered by North Dakota's investor-owned utilities (IOU). Consumers served by both an electric cooperative and an IOU should first contact their primary heating utility.
- Only North Dakota residents are eligible to receive residential rebates on a home located in North Dakota.
- Businesses and non-profits are eligible to receive commercial rebates on their business property located in North Dakota.
- Farmers are considered residential customers for purposes of this rebate program, but can elect to be treated as a commercial customer. If designated as a commercial customer, the farm, including any home on the premises, will be treated as part of the business. Contractors who pay employees to work on certain construction/installation projects paid for in whole or in part with rebates funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Stimulus Act) must not pay less than prevailing wages/fringe benefits for the county where the project is located, as required by the Davis-Bacon Act. See more information about Davis-Bacon requirements.
- State and local government entities, including public schools, are not eligible for this rebate program. Private schools and facilities owned by Indian tribes are eligible for the rebate program.
- Rebates are not provided for the following types of facilities: swimming pools, golf courses, gambling establishments, aquariums, and zoos.
- Rebates are only available for designated products or services that were purchased, installed or rendered, and invoiced on or after June 1, 2010.
- Rebates are provided on a first come, first served basis. The program will end on December 31, 2011 or when the rebate funds are expended, whichever occurs first. Priority of rebate payment will be determined by the date a qualifying, completed application is received at the NDAREC office in Mandan, N.D.
- Residential rebates are limited to a maximum total of $5,000/utility customer and commercial rebates are limited to a maximum total of $15,000/utility customer. A customer can receive two or more rebates in the same category if the customer’s total rebate does not exceed the applicable limit of $5,000 for residential rebates or $15,000 for commercial rebates.
- Rebates for central air conditioning and air source heat pumps, are not restricted by size. However these rebates are restricted by size—wind turbines (20 kilowatts max), solar (60 kilowatts max), geothermal heat pumps (5.5 tons max.). A rebate for geothermal heat pumps will not be available for a unit or combination of units as part of the same system that exceeds this
tonnage.
