Home Energy Audit Rebate
If the homeowner pays a minimum of $30, the Utility Rebate Program will pay a rebate for the remaining cost of a residential audit up to a maximum rebate of $125. An energy audit is also required as a pre-condition for a homeowner to receive a self-installation insulation rebate.
Co-op customers whose homes are heated primarily by electricity, propane, or fuel oil should contact your local co-op for an energy audit rebate. Co-op customers whose homes are heated primarily with natural gas should contact their natural gas supplier (MDU or Xcel Energy) to obtain an energy audit rebate.The co-ops have developed a standard home energy audit form, but other forms may be used as well, so long as they provide documentation of the energy audit services provided and are signed by the energy auditor.
Commercial Energy Audit Rebate
Businesses and other commercial facilities are eligible for a rebate of 50% of the costs of an energy audit up to a maximum of $15,000, subject to approval by the local electric distribution cooperative based on whether the project will likely have a measurable return on investment in terms of energy savings.
Finding a Qualified Energy Auditor
Some electric cooperatives have staff available to provide home energy audits while some others do not provide energy audit services. You can check with your local co-op to see whether they can do an energy audit for you or recommend someone locally to perform the audit.
